I/U

My identity is a mere reflection and recollection of my contemplation of the land and the knowledge past down to me about it.
I sometimes feel sad about it.
I am privileged to take part in ceremony and to be able to relearn our language, but I sometimes wonder how much knowledge was lost.
I sometimes feel like my image is superficial in comparison to what has been and what is yet to come for our people.

Being Blackfoot.
What does that look like.
What do Blackfoots dress like?
Why don't you have a Rez accent?

You may see my image as assimilated, and some even question the authenticity of my nativeness,
but my knowledge of my roots will speak for itself.
Their elder's never taught them the right ones to pick, I shouldn't be so hard on myself.

They were supposed to kill the Indian in the child, but instead they killed the kid in the native.

Like Chief, I am here and I will always be. Like the Sundance, I am here and will always be.
